Pickled Viking Farm: Local Food & Love
Pickled Viking Farm is a small, family-owned, non-certified organic farm dedicated to sustainability, community, and wellness through growing great food. Pickled Viking Farm is the culmination of a passion project by Erick Wicklund and his family. He wanted fresh food for himself and those he loved, but just as importantly, he wanted to know where it came from. What started out as a way of providing sustainable and healthy food for his own family, Erick quickly realized that the entire community could benefit. That’s when Pickled Viking Farm came alive in 2018.
Being a farmer might seem like the last thing anyone would do with a background like Erick’s, but somehow it has worked out for the best. He earned a Masters in Information Technology, along with over 25 years of experience in pre-sales for security infrastructure, telecom and storage. There is no challenge too big or too small for Erick. He is always brainstorming the best technological solutions, even on a farm.
There is more to Erick than his life as a technical wizard and farmer. He has an incredible sense of humor and is an amazing chef. He was in the Navy for 8 years, but had to leave the service after becoming disabled. However, like he does as a consultant, he turned lemons into lemonade. He used his military benefit to pay for his education, which includes a Culinary Arts degree in addition to his Masters in Information Technology.
Today, Erick uses his full lifetime of experience running Pickled Viking Farm in order to cultivate a living monument to love and cultivation. As a disabled veteran, Erick knows intimately what farming has done for himself and his family after his time in the service. Pickled Viking Farm is proud to be part of the Veteran Farmer Coalition. This coalition is dedicated to helping veterans find purpose and community in farming, while bringing quality goods to farms and homes alike.
These days, the farm is dedicated to producing raw, organic, clover honey. Michigan wildflower honey is also produced on the premises. They also tap about 150 maple trees to produce pure maple sugar. At the same time, they keep an eye over a large brood of free range chickens, that produce the best free range eggs you’ve tasted. Stop by Lapeer, Michigan and see what we’re about!
